4 Essential pieces of software

This is a hard blog piece for me to write. I will admit it, I am a technology junkie. I have always loved computers and decided when I was 8 that I was going to work with them for a living. Now, I’m not that practical so I had to deal with software rather than hardware. I dabbled with development, but I found my true calling with consultancy. For my job I go to site and implement the first three types of software that we will discuss. Now, I am naturally biased towards the software I implement, but I’ve also listed the competitors.

Financial software

This is essential for tracking your income and expenses, managing your taxes, and preparing financial statements. It is important to find a scalable solution, as changing later can be expensive. I would always recommend Microsoft Business Central, after all it fully integrates to the Microsoft Office Suite of products and is used by companies who turnover £5k up to companies turning over £5billion. However, it may not be right for you if your business isn’t scalable, so take a look at Xero or Sage Intacct.

Customer relationship management (CRM) software

This helps you manage your customer interactions, track sales leads, and provide excellent customer service. Salesforce is top of the pile and comes with a price tag to match. HubSpot, Zoho CRM or Freshdesk are solutions with small companies in mind.

Project management software

This helps you keep track of your projects, tasks, and deadlines. Microsoft have their own solution here, but I would recommend Trello or Monday.com as solutions which would be a better fit for smaller companies.

Website builder

This allows you to create a professional website for your business without any coding knowledge. Squarespace is my preferred platform (you’re on it now) but Wix is also simple to use. Wordpress allows you to have a free version which can be a good starting point for building the business.

Regardless of which platform you use, keep scalability in mind. If you want to grow your business to grand proportions, its important that you have a software solution which grows with you.
